A MAN CALLED JESUS

Scripture Reading: John 9

Therefore they said to him, “How were your eyes opened?” He answered and said, “A Man called Jesus made clay and anointed my eyes and said to me, ‘Go to the pool of Siloam and wash.’ So I went and washed, and I received sight.” John 9:10–11

The neighbours of the previously blind man were full of questions. They could not understand how a man whom they had known and accepted as blind and dependent could overnight see and be independent. Their question was interesting.

How were your eyes opened? What a question to ask. The miracle was extraordinary, and they needed to know how it had all happened. People will always question us about our faith. They would want us to explain why we believe in the Lord Jesus as our Lord and Saviour. When they question us, we must not be upset. We need to give a firm reason for our faith.

The man’s answer is refreshing.

A man called Jesus. The formerly blind man knew the name of the man who ministered healing to him. It is apparent that his encounter with Jesus was longer than how it is recorded in the passage. Jesus might have introduced Himself to the man when He went to him. The Lord might also have explained what He was doing to the man.

The man who had been blind knew all that the Lord Jesus did for him. He knew about the clay Jesus made and how it was applied to his eyes. When he was asked about what happened to him, he was able to recount it all.

We learn from this man that we must pay attention to the things that the Lord does for us and the instructions He gives us. We must be ready to follow through on all He requires of us to do.

Having explained what Jesus did to him, the formerly blind man now spoke about what he did.

• I went, I washed, and I received sight. This was the man’s role. He had to take the right steps to receive his healing.

Be ready to answer for the things God does for you.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for all the things you have done to make me who I am today. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
