Rt. Hon. Speaker, Alban Bagbin is the FIRST and ONLY Speaker who has a Military Security Detail in ADDITION to the normal, regular Police Security Protection Detachment! FACT!
Speaker Bagbin may have had good reasons why he sought such an elevated security protection arrangement.
And ordinarily, granting such a request from the NUMBER 2 (sorry Number 3) gentleman of the land should not raise any eyebrows.
The catch however, is/was that those who granted the request committed some “procedural omission” which requires rectification relative to the Armed Forces’ modus operandi on such matters.
The “ugly noises” following the “leakage” (And mind you, yours truly is not allergic to “leakages”) of the 11th January, 2022 letter from the Military, have not and are not helping the “regularization” of the “procedural omission”!
Methinks the Speaker, the Leadership of Parliament (including its Joint Committee on Defence and Interior), the Ministry of Defence and the Military High Command can and must find ways of de-escalating the needless “ugly noises” and initiate processes to resolve the “procedural omission/challenge” occasioned by Speaker Bagbin’s novel request and its subsequent approval.
In good spirit, and at least for now, I hesitate to put out “the reasons” advanced by Speaker Bagbin for the elevated security protection he requested and the “procedural omissions/challenges committed in the course of the approval process and by who and who!
I repeat: Speaker Bagbin is the FIRST and ONLY Speaker to enjoy such elevated security protection in the 4th. Republic! FACT!!!
