Ablakwa to sue VRA over flood

Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Member of Parliament for North Tongu, has announced plans to sue the Volta River Authority (VRA) for what he terms a “man-made” disaster.

Ablakwa accused the VRA of negligence bordering on ‘mass murder’ and revealed ongoing discussions with lawyers regarding legal action.

Ablakwa acknowledged the miraculous absence of casualties in the flood and commended the local youth for their efforts in assisting with rescue operations.

Meanwhile, the Minority in Parliament has demanded a thorough investigation into the incident, pointing fingers at the VRA for causing the disaster.

Minority Leader Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson expressed disappointment at the VRA’s relief efforts and called for immediate action to house the affected communities, suggesting temporary relocation to the Saglemi Housing project.

The CEO of the VRA, Mr. Emmanuel Antwi-Darkwa, explained that the spillage was a result of unexpectedly high inflows into the lake.

He emphasized that the spillage was a necessary emergency measure to safeguard the dam and ensure public safety. Antwi-Darkwa noted that the situation was being closely monitored and that the spilling might continue until the inflows receded to a manageable level.
