Abu Jinapor vows to retain Damongo seat for NPP during 2024 polls

The Member of Parliament for Damongo in the Savannah Region, Samuel Abu Jinapor, has vowed to retain the seat for the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the upcoming December polls.

Mr Jinapor who doubles as the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources asserted that the constituency is fully prepared to secure “every vote” for the party, ensuring victory in the December 7 Election.

Mr Jinapor expressed his readiness to defend the NPP’s seat and significantly contribute to Dr Bawumia’s presidential victory during his speech at the acclamation ceremony in Damongo, Savannah Region, last Saturday.

“The Savannah region will be a true battleground for the NPP. Every vote and every seat will be contested for, and with the help of the Almighty, all the seats will be secured for the Party,” Jinapor affirmed.

During the ceremony, Mr Solomon Barnes Essuman, the West Gonja Municipal Director of the Electoral Commission, officially announced Jinapor’s candidature by lifting his hands.

The event also marked the launch of the Damongo constituency and Savannah Region campaigns for the 2024 Election.

Over the past four years, Jinapor has spearheaded various infrastructure projects and social interventions aimed at alleviating poverty among his constituents. These initiatives include the construction of a modern astroturf, a community centre, a 15-kilometre asphalt road, the installation of 15 community boreholes, and the provision of educational materials to pupils.

Furthermore, Jinapor has supported 300 students from the constituency with tuition fees for tertiary education and provided financial and technical assistance to women engaged in small and medium-scale enterprises.

Drawing a parallel with the 2023 AFCON victory of the Ivorian national team, Mr Jinaport expressed optimism that the NPP, symbolized by the Elephant, would emerge victorious over its opponents.

“Just like the Elephant of La Cote d’Ivoire triumphed over the Eagles during the 2023 AFCON so, the elephant Party in Ghana will defeat the eagle on the December 7 Election,” Mr Jinapor said, amid cheers from the enthusiastic NPP supporters and sympathizers.

He highlighted Dr Bawumia’s vision for the nation, particularly emphasizing ICT and digitization aligned with the fourth industrial revolution, contrasting it with former President John Mahama’s tenure, where prolonged power outages affected businesses and livelihoods.

Alhaj Adam Briamah, the Constituency Chairman, reiterated the party’s commitment to securing victory in all 86 polling centres across the constituency on December 7.

Alhaji Sulemana Iddrisu, the Regional Chairman of the Party, pledged to increase the margin of votes in the Damongo constituency from the 2,300 vote difference recorded in the 2020 General Election to 7,000 or more in this year’s polls.

The event was attended by party officials including Mr Justin Koduah Frimpong, the general secretary, Mr. Stephen Asamoah Boateng, Minister for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Mr. Francis Asenso Boakye, the Minister-designate for Roads and Highways, Madam Fatimatu Abubakar, the Minister-designate for Information, and Mr. Saeed Muhazu Jibril, the Savannah Regional Minister. Also present were regional chairmen from other regions, constituency executives, members of the council of elders, party patrons, area coordinators, and polling station executives of the Party.
