Accra Police halts protest at Jubilee House amidst security concerns

The Accra Regional Police Command has formally requested the organizers of two planned demonstrations, Democracy Hub, Patriotic Hub, and Patriotic Forum Group, to postpone their intended protest at the Jubilee House from 1st to 31st December 2023 and 1st December 2023 to 5th January 2024.

The police cited concerns about the security implications of protesting around the Jubilee House, emphasizing its status as a security installation.

According to a letter from the Regional Commander, the security assessment conducted by the Command revealed that the protest and picketing around the Jubilee House could potentially jeopardize public defense, public order, and public safety, among other critical factors.

The Accra Regional police command stressed operational and security constraints during the Christmas and New Year festivities, stating that they were unable to provide adequate security and protection for the intended demonstration during this period.

“Therefore, the Command, in the interest of public defense, public order, and public safety among others requests you to postpone the special event to any date after 5th January 2024.”

“The Command further requests you to relocate the destination for the intended demonstration/picketing if you are inclined to hold the protest, strictly in accordance with the Public Order Act,” the statement said.
