Agona East MP launches Health Scheme

Member of Parliament for Agona East, Queenstar Maame Pokuah Sawyerr has launched a health initiative dubbed ‘Maame Pokuah Health Scheme and Health Screening Exercise’ (MPHS & Free Health screening). 

The inauguration, which took place at Agona Faahwia in the Central Region was attended by many dignitaries from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and officers of the Agona District Health Directorate. 

The programme climaxed with free deworming of children from various villages and the maiden free health screening for hundreds of women, children and men.In her short remarks, Queenstar Opoku Sawyerr, expressed gratitude to God for making this dream to serve the health needs of her constituents a reality. 

She said, “In saying a big thank you to God and all loved ones, I also wish to declare openly that this is from God to the good people of Agona East but through me.”

The 2020 Vice Presidential candidate of the NDC, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, delivered the keynote address and officially launched the MPHS & Free Health screening. 

She was so moved by the laudable gesture  from the MP that she, with other individuals donated some monies to support the purchase of drugs to the make the initiative sustainable. Prof Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang presented GHS5,000 while others including Comrade Gabriel Nii Kommey Adams donated GHS3,000. 

Other contributors are Dr Richard Asiedu,  GHS2,000; Hon Sam Kwesi Fletcher, GHS2,000; Mr. Anthony Awotwe, GHS5000; Mr Yaw Donkor, GHS10,000; Anonymous, GHS5,000 and Anonymous, GHS10, 000. 

The NDC delegation was led by the National Chairman, Hon Samuel Ofosu Ampofo; Deputy General Secretary, Barbara Serwaah Asamoah; and Deputy National Communication Director Obuobia Darko-Opoku.

Since it was purely a health program for the health needs of the good people of Agona East, the Agona East District Health Directorate was fully represented by Ms Dora Jones Fayia, District Director of Health; Major Richmond Obeng Appau, Administrator of Salvation Army Hospital; Dr Bismark Gyedu Nyarko, Optometrist of Salvation Army Hospital; Aaron Gyamfi, among other health professionals were present. Chiefs and opinion leaders from the constituency were also there to support the effort of the MP.
