Akufo-Addo confers nation’s highest honour, Order of the Star of Ghana, on Bawumia

Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has been conferred with the nation’s highest honour, the “Order of the Star of Ghana – Officer Award” by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

The recognition occurred during the 2024 National Honours ceremony held at the Accra International Conference Centre on Monday, December 30, 2024.

As the New Patriotic Party’s presidential candidate in the recently concluded 2024 elections, Dr. Bawumia received the award for outstanding public service over the past eight years as Vice President.

This award follows his electoral defeat to former President John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress.

Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, Dr. Bawumia’s running mate in the 2024 elections, also received recognition at the event. He was awarded the “Order of the Volta – Officer Award” for his contributions to national development.

The Order of the Star of Ghana, the nation’s highest accolade, acknowledges exceptional service in the public and private sectors with the Officer rank signifying excellence.

The ceremony celebrated distinguished Ghanaians across various sectors, including civil service, the military, police, judiciary, education, public health, sports, culture, commerce, and agriculture.

Established in 1960, the awards recognize individuals for their creativity, innovation, excellence, and hard work in advancing national development.

The maiden National Honours and Awards ceremony was held under the leadership of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah when Ghana became a Republic.

Since then, the initiative has become an integral part of recognizing outstanding contributions by Ghanaians and foreign nationals.
