Akufo-Addo endorses Bawumia’s candidacy ahead of Saturday’s NPP presidential primary

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has subtly endorsed Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s candidacy for the upcoming New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primary.

Speaking at a gathering of students from the Association International School at the Jubilee House, President Akufo-Addo praised Bawumia’s honesty, intelligence, and cleverness, emphasizing these qualities as pivotal reasons for his unwavering support.

“I chose Dr. Bawumia to be my Vice President because of his honesty. He is a very clever man, and I needed his brains to help me govern the country effectively,” President Akufo-Addo declared, highlighting Bawumia’s intellectual prowess.

“He is an honest person, and he speaks his honesty. He is not one of those people you have to guess what they try to say; he says what he has to say very directly, which I like. I prefer to deal with people who are also very direct,” the President added, underlining Bawumia’s straightforward approach and integrity.

The NPP presidential primary, scheduled for Saturday, November 4, will see delegates of the party electing a candidate for the 2024 election.

Following a super delegates’ conference in August that narrowed down the aspirants to five after which former Trade Minister Kwadwo Alan Kyerematen resigned from the party.

The contest now primarily involves Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, Assin Central legislator Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, former Minister of Food and Agriculture Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, and Ing. Francis Addai-Nimoh.

President Akufo-Addo’s tacit endorsement is expected to bolster Bawumia’s campaign as the party gears up for the crucial primary.

With the President’s public declaration of Bawumia’s unparalleled qualities, his candidature will receive a significant boost, solidifying his position as a frontrunner in the race for the party’s ticket next Saturday.
