Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council halts celebration of Asamankese’s Obuodwan Festival

The Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council has issued a terse warning to the Asamankese Traditional Council and the Asamankese hene against proceeding with plans to celebrate the Obuodwan Festival.

The decision, it indicated, is a clear violation of the expressed orders of the Standing Committee rendered on 8th November,2021.

The Abuakwa Traditional Council expressed its strong disapproval in a letter dated 19th November, 2021 and addressed to the Asamankese Traditional Council in which it warned such a celebration has tendency to undermine the peace of the Asamankese town and its surrounding committees.

The Council noted with concern the Asamankese hene’s determination to celebrate the festival and pointed to the many announcements being made on several media platforms on an eloborate programme for the commencement of the Festival from Sunday 20th – 28th November, 2021.

“We are informed that both the Anum-Asamankesehene and the Adeisohene have in a letter addressed to you expressed their reservations and protest about your decision to celebrate the Obuodwan Festival.”

“Of more serious concern is the security implications that any such celebration portends for the Asamankese township and its surrounding communities.”

“In the circumstances, the Council wish to indicate its disapproval and to further warn that any such celebration has the tendency to undermine the peace of the Asamankese town and its surrounding communities.”

The Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council served notice that it will not hesitate to invoke its highest customary sanctions if its orders should be flouted.
