Alban Bagbin expresses gratitude for reappointment as Speaker of 9th Parliament

Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin has expressed profound gratitude to President-Elect John Dramani Mahama, the National Executives, and the Parliamentary Leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for re-nominating him as the Speaker of the 9th Parliament of the Fourth Republic of Ghana.

In a heartfelt statement, the Rt. Hon. Bagbin described it as both ”a profound privilege and an onerous responsibility.

He emphasized his commitment to upholding the values of justice, fairness, and respect for the rule of law as he leads Parliament into a new chapter of Ghana’s democratic journey.

The decision follows extensive consultations involving the President-elect, the NDC’s National Executive Committee, and the party’s Parliamentary Leadership.

In a statement signed by his Special Aide, Mahama expressed confidence in Bagbin’s ability to effectively lead Parliament and stressed his distinguished parliamentary career, which spans from serving as a Member of Parliament for Nadowl

Mr. Bagbin assured Ghanaians that under his leadership, Parliament will operate with ‘the highest standards of integrity, transparency, accountability, and inclusiveness and pledged to work tirelessly to strengthen the nation’s democratic institutions and ensure that Parliament remains an effective and responsive body for addressing the needs and aspirations of the people.

“I will, more than before, rededicate myself fully to the task ahead of the country, working to strengthen our democratic institutions,” he affirmed.

This marks Bagbin’s second term as Speaker of Parliament, a position he has held with distinction, earning respect across the political spectrum for his dedication to fostering dialogue and consensus-building.

With a renewed mandate, the Speaker is expected to play a pivotal role in navigating the political landscape of the 9th Parliament, ensuring robust debates and fostering a harmonious working relationship among Members of Parliament.
