Ghanaian sprinter, Alex Amankwah couldn’t hold back his tears after suffering a disqualification for lane violation in Heat 2 of the men’s 800m race in the World Athletics Championships in Oregon.
Amankwah completed the race with a time of 1:45.92 and was in contention to pick up one of the six non automatic slots slots but was disqualified for violation of lanes.
He finished the race behind Peter Bol, Kyle Langford and Mariano Garcia to come fourth.
Speaking in an interview, Amankwah said he was disappointed but was looking forward to coming back stronger.
“I worked too hard for moments like this to get in the way but it’s okay. I’m a fighter and I know I’m going to be better because of this,” he said crying.
Alex Amankwah is still Ghana’s national record holder in the 800m event with a time of 1:44.80 which he set in 2017.
