Watch: Anti-gay bill proponents warn schools teaching CSE; Urge Akufo-Addo to stand firm

Proponents of the Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill 2021 have issued a stern warning to schools that have introduced elements of LGBTQ+ and Comprehensive Sexual Education (CSE) in their operations.

The Ministry of Education, they said, will be duly apprised of their illegal activities.

The sponsors issued the warning on Wednesday, July 5 after it went through the second reading in Parliament.

Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram, Sam Nartey George and his colleague sponsors addressed the media after the House concluded the debate on the Bill.

According to him, no school can operate in Ghana outside the remit of the Education Ministry and indicated those that will flout Ghana’s anti-LGBTQ+ law will be sanctioned accordingly.

The 275 members of Parliament, he said, support passage of the bill and urged the President to assent to it to become law immediately it gets to his desk.

He assured that all MPs from both aisles of the House will support the government against anyone or group that will target it because of the bill.

He said, “This bill is about the onslaught on the future of Ghanaian children and what is already happening in Ghanaian schools.”

“The 275 MPs are staunchly behind the government to assent to the bill to become law immediately after Parliament completes its work.”

“We, as legislators across the aisle, will stand with the government against anybody who will take the administration because it has given presidential assent to the law.”

Meanwhile, all MPs have unanimously backed approval of the Bill.

The Bill will now move to the Consideration stage to fine-tune it. It will then go through the third reading and then be submitted to the President for assent.
