Director-General of State Interest Governance and Authority (SIGA), Mr. Stephen Asamoah Boateng joined thousands of people to celebrate the last Akwasidei for the Asante Kingdom for 2021.
His attendance to the ceremony, which is one of the most important celebrations in the Asante Kingdom, was in two capacities; as leader of the delegation from SIGA and in personal capacity as someone who hails from Asante-Akyem Konongo, where he was born to his Bretuo Father and Fante Agona mother.
SIGA, his brainchild, is playing key role and sponsor in the planning and execution of the Otumfuo Commemorative Gold Coin which would be unveiled later this year.
Since Mr. Asamoah Boateng leaves office at the end of this year, as Director-General, the last Akwasidei was great opportunity for him to lead the team of SIGA Managers to brief the King before his departure.
Other dignitaries who joined the celebration include Ghana’s Vice President, Dr. Mahmudu Bawumia and his wife, Samira Bawumia, Trades and Industry Minister, Alan John Kyeremateng, Minister of Agric, Dr. Afriyie Akoto, Works and Housing Minister, Hon Asenso Boakye, and a host of High Commissioners and Ambassadors of some countries.
Asante tribes in Cote D’Ivoire and Jamaica were also there in their numbers to partake the celebration in their beautiful kente and other traditional attires.
The last Akwasidei for the year is a climax of all “Adei” celebrated within the year.
As usual, it is an occasion where great Asante culture and tradition is showcased to the admiration of not just the attendants but people both far and near.
