Adansi Asokwa constituency, traditionally a hub of peaceful democratic processes, is witnessing a dramatic turn of events in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary primary.
The Member of Parliament, Kobbina Tahir Hammond, known by many as KT Hammond, took an unprecedented step by approaching the police with serious allegations and a contentious warning against his political rival, Sammy Benifo Dakwa.
According to Hammond, Benifo Dakwa employed a group of macho men who allegedly assaulted his supporters.
In an angry warning to the police, KT Hammond expressed his distress over the situation, claiming the macho men were armed with iron rods and that the police, despite being armed and present, failed to intervene effectively.
Taking his grievances a step further, K.T. Hammond issued a stark ultimatum to his opponent. He stated his intention to not only defeat Dakwa at the polls but also to subject him to physical violence.
“The other candidate, Obenifo, I’m going to make sure that he is beaten mercilessly. I’ll humiliate him at the polls and get him beaten,” declared Hammond in the video that has gone viral on social media.
“Wherever he is, he should leave town quickly. I’ve been voting at Adansi Asokwa for 24 years and nothing like this has happened before.”
While assuring the police that he did not intend to disrupt the election proceedings, KT Hammond’s message was clear: he expected Dakwa to leave the constituency immediately.
