Aspiring NPP flagbearers pledge party unity; undertake not to resign upon defeat

The four contenders seeking the flagbearer position in the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) have firmly committed to staying in the party, even if they don’t win in Saturday’s polls.

During a meeting with the National Council of Elders, the aspirants resolved to accept the primary’s results and prioritize the party’s interests.

This move was announced by the party’s General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Koduah.

According to Koduah, the aspirants have signed an undertaking that they will accept the primary results, promote peace and cohesion, and support the winner of the primary, should they not emerge as the victor.

The aspirants have also agreed to comply with the mechanisms and timelines established by the party until the results are declared and to respect the delegates’ decision.

The aspirants have also agreed to “ensure and enforce mechanisms that have been established by the party and also work within the timelines and duration that have been established by the party from now till the results are declared and to respect the decision of the delegates of our party.

Meanwhile, Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is seen as the frontrunner primary, with Kennedy Agyapong, MP for Assin Central, being his closest competitor.

The other two aspirants in the race for the flagbearer position are former Minister for Agriculture Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto and former Mampong MP Francis Addai-Nimoh.
