Attempts to aggravate insecurity in Bawku unacceptable – MPs condemn enskinment of another Naba

Some Members of Parliament from the Upper East Region have described as null and void ‘purported enskinment of a Bawku Naba by the Nayiri, Naa Bohugu Mahami Abdulai Sherigah II.’

Such purported enskinment, they say, is unacceptable and will not be recognized by any institution under the 1992 Constitution.

This is contained in a statement signed by the Members of Parliament for Bawku Central, Zebilla, Binduri, Pusiga, Timpane and Garu namely Hon Mahama Ayariga, Hon Cletus Apul Avoka, Hon Abanga Abdulai, Hon Hajia Laadi Ayii Ayamba, Hon Lydia Lamisi Akanvariba and Hon Albert Akuka Alalzuuga.

The enskinment, the MPs argued, should not come from a person of the Nayiri’s stature.

They urged the government to take every step to ensure the maintenance of peace and security and hold perpetrators of what they called a criminal act accountable.

The MPs urged the people of the Kusaug Traditional Area and its environs to remain calm and assured this unlawful conduct will not stand.

“We are watching closely the level of political will of the Government of President Nana Akufo Addo and Vice President Alhaji Mamudu Bawumia in respecting the Constitution of Ghana and the right of the Kusasi people to rule over their own land.”

“The Zugrana, Naba Asigri Abugrago Azoka II who is the Bawkunaaba and President of the Kusaug Traditional Council remains the only recognized paramount chief of the Kusaug Traditional Area as recognized by law.”

“The conduct of the Nayiri has the potential to aggravate the already precarious security situation in Bawku,” the statement said.
