Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, Speaker of Parliament and the longest-serving Member of Parliament since the inception of the Fourth Republic, has been honoured with the African Public Sector Conference and Awards (APSCA) Humanitarian Lifetime Achievement Award.

The prestigious recognition highlights his outstanding contributions to governance, legislative excellence, and leadership across more than three decades.

Executive Director of Instinct Wave West Africa, Carol Opata who conferred the honour at Parliament House on Friday December 20 lauded Mr. Alban Bagbin for his enduring dedication to public service.

“Over three remarkable decades, you have been a steadfast pillar in the legislative process, navigating the complexities of governance with exceptional acumen and an unwavering commitment to the needs of the people.”

Accepting the award, Speaker Alban Bagbin expressed his gratitude and humility stating, “This recognition is truly humbling. I didn’t know that such an illustrious institution was observing the work we do here in Ghana.”

The Speaker praised the APSCA organizers for their commitment to honouring excellence and for bringing the award to Ghana.

“We couldn’t travel to Botswana for the original ceremony due to pressing parliamentary duties, but your decision to present the award here is deeply appreciated,” he added.

Carol Opata provided an overview of APSCA’s vision and mission, emphasizing its role in transforming Africa’s public sector.

APSCA, she said, serves as a platform where leaders converge to exchange ideas, share insights, and foster innovation in governance and aims to spotlight public sector successes and inspire others to strive for excellence.

She underscored Rt. Hon. Bagbin’s influence beyond Ghana, particularly his contributions to international parliamentary organizations like the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) and the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).

“Your influence extends beyond borders, standing as a beacon of inspiration for governance and development across the continent,” she said.

The Humanitarian Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes not only the Speaker’s past achievements but also his ongoing commitment to good governance and public service
