Bawumia destined  To Lead NPP-Minister

The Member of Parliament for Mampong says Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia remains the only formidable candidate for the flagbearership slot of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).

According to him Dr. Bawumia’s long-standing service to the party is unmatched.

In the view of Mr. Ampratwum-Sarpong who is also the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Bawumia has demonstrated competence and vision, which have earned him the support of the NPP’s members adding that Dr Bawumia is destined by God to be the leader of the Party

Speaking in an interview with Okay FM, Mr. Ampratwum-Sarpong praised Dr. Bawumia for his long-standing service to the party and his demonstrated competence and vision, which have earned him the support of the NPP’s members.

This he noted would lead to his resounding election as the party’s leader for victory in the upcoming elections.

Mr. Ampratwum-Sarpong also lauded Dr. Bawumia’s commitment for his support to the current government, as well as his demonstrated competence and capabilities.

He believes Dr. Bawumia’s vision for Ghana’s future would build on the current government’s achievements and bring positive impacts to the party, the nation, and the youth in the country.

The Mampong MP cited digitisation as an example of Dr. Bawumia’s vision, which has been thriving and making a significant impact in Ghana.

Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, last week told the Majority caucus of Parliament of his intention to contest the NPP presidential primary in November.

The meeting saw the majority of the NPP Members of Parliament (MPs) endorsing the move by the Vice President.

That brings to nine aspirants which includes Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, former Minister of Trade and Industry, DrOwusuAfriyieAkoto, former Minister of Food and Agriculture, Kennedy Agyapong, MP for Assin Central Constituency in the Central Region and Francis Addai-Nimoh, a businessman.

The rest are Joe Ghartey, MP for Essikado-Ketan Constituency in the Western Region, Kwabena Agyei Agyapong, former General Secretary of NPP, Dr Kofi KonaduApraku, former Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration and Boakye Agyarko, former Minister of Energy.

Dr Bawumia is considered by many as the favourite to succeed President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in 2024 but must beat off competition from three-time runner  Mr Kyerematen who resigned in January this year to focus on his presidential ambition.

The NPP on November 4, 2023, will elect a presidential candidate for the 2024 elections and already the nine aspirants have declared their intention to lead the party and has also announced that parliamentary primary will be held in February 2024.

Mr Sammy Awuku, the Director-General of the National Lottery Authority (NLA), has expressed his support for Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to be the flagbearer for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2024 election.

In an interview with Accra based Asaase Radio on Wednesday, Mr Awuku stated that Dr Bawumia would be a strategic candidate for the NPP and that the party could win the election with him as the flagbearer.

While acknowledging that there are other strong candidates, Mr Awuku stated that he prefers Bawumia because of his smartness and his ability to practice politics of inclusion.

He also mentioned that Bawumia has been at the forefront of championing many initiatives of the government.

Mr. Awuku emphasized that the election will be about the content of what the person can do and provide, rather than tribe or religion.

He advised Bawumia to work hard and give the delegates and the party people a reason to believe that he can lead them to break the 8.

Although Dr Bawumia has not declared his intention yet, Awuku believes that he would be a great candidate the NPP.

He noted that even people who supported different candidates in the past are now canvassing for votes for Dr. Bawumia.

Mr Awuku said:“I think they are all great candidates but I won’t hide the fact that I have a preference and my preference will be the vice-president…It is also possible the NPP can win 2024 with a great candidate; in him [Bawumia] you have a combine effect of a very smart and good candidate.”

“All I saw [on Bawumia’s facebook wall] was that it is possible. He has not declared his intention yet. He will be a strategic candidate for us [NPP] to have; he’s accommodating and practices politics of inclusion. I’ve seen people who supported different candidates in the past canvassing for votes for him.”

He added: “I believe that this election will definitely not be about tribe or religion but will be about the content of what the person can do and provide.”

“The Vice-President has been at the forefront of championing many initiatives of the government and if he decides to throw his hat into the ring and he asks for our support, it’s something that it’s also worth considering,” Mr. Awuku said.
