Former Minister for Energy, Boakye Agyarko, has issued a rallying call to members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to embark on a well-thought-out process to reclaim the party’s original vision and mission.
In a statement titled “Taking Our Party Back — Step One,” Agyarko stressed the urgent need for reforms while cautioning against repeating past mistakes.
“The clarifying effects of election 2024 are manifesting themselves,” Agyarko wrote, emphasizing that the party’s recent challenges have sparked demands for reform and a “rescue” mission.
While supporting calls for change, he warned against disorganized efforts, urging a coherent and deliberate approach.
Reflecting on past events, Agyarko alluded to a “grand conspiracy” in 2009 that concentrated power in the hands of one individual under the guise of reforms. He cautioned that any new reform agenda must avoid a similar pitfall.
“In response to a similar situation, albeit less humiliating, there arose a grand conspiracy in 2009 that seized the party and put it in the hand of one man, creating a ‘Caesar’ thereby. The current clamour seeks to undo the effects of ‘Caesar’ on the fortunes of our party,” Agyarko stated.
He also stressed the importance of learning from history and warned against repeating past mistakes. “People who forget their history keep making the same mistakes and keep having to start over,” he remarked.
