British father, 62, and daughter, 33, are seen in CCTV footage having a boozy night together in a Crete bar hours before he was arrested by Greek police on suspicion of raping her

This is a British father and daughter seen having a boozy night together in a bar in Greece just hours before he was arrested for raping her.

Greek officials insist that CCTV footage from the bar proves their case that the father, 62 indulged in ‘inappropriate sexual activity’ with his daughter, 33, while they were drinking heavily in the popular resort town of Malia in Crete

He is accused of then raping her in a deserted alley way after they left the bar in the early hours of the morning last Thursday.

The father and daughter cannot be named for legal reasons, but he denies the accusations and she is supporting him, insisting that he is ‘100% innocent.’

CCTV footage of the father and daughter from which these stills are taken appears to be inconclusive. The footage, obtained by MailOnline, was taken shortly before 4am last Thursday.

The daughter, who has continually protested her father’s innocence, had previously claimed that once all the CCTV evidence was gathered it would prove her father ‘was back in the hotel when I was attacked’.

he clip shows the woman slumped on the bar while seated in a stool as the father repeatedly appears to go over to speak in her ear. He also attempts on several occasions to get her up, which she resists.

At times during the footage, they are filmed locked in a number of tight holds and the father is also seen falling to the floor after the woman appears to push him away while she also stumbles after slipping off the bar stool.

Despite the indeterminate nature of the video, Greek police officials insist that it is a key part of their case against the father and believe it shows sexual contact by the man on the woman.

Captain Sofia Loverdos of Crete police told MailOnline: ‘The video is vital to this case. The man touched the woman inappropriately, attempted to kiss her and also hit her.

‘The woman denies this, but the CCTV footage shows something different.

‘This is a crime of rape and domestic violence and we are obliged to pursue it under Greek law even if the victim insists that the alleged perpetrator is innocent.’

She added: ‘We have also gathered CCTV from the surrounding area and statements from eyewitnesses. They show that the man and woman continued arguing after leaving the bar – and that they were together at all times. There was nobody else involved.’

The man appeared in court in Crete’s capital of Heraklion earlier this week where he pleaded not guilty to charges of rape, sexual abuse and domestic violence.

He is currently held at Hersonissos police headquarters but is to be moved to a prison in Tripoli on the Greek mainland over the weekend.

The bar where they were drinking is located along the bustling Beach Road, which is lined with rowdy bars and nightclubs that remain open until the early hours of the morning and are popular with Brits.

The father and daughter are believed to have started drinking in the early evening and arrived at the bar around 1am.

Bar staff revealed that the father was drinking pints all night while the woman was knocking back numerous shots of Sambuca.

A member of staff, who did not want to be named said: ‘The woman was very drunk, and things were getting quite heated between her and the father. People were being very chatty in the bar and she told us that he was her father.

‘They both stumbled out after 4am. She could barely stand up and wasn’t even able to speak. It was very shocking when I heard about the rape a few days later.’

According to other eyewitnesses, the father and daughter continued to argue after leaving and then made their way past a nearby supermarket.

An attack is believed to have later taken place in a dead-end alley concealed by bushes.

The woman reported that she had been raped to police last Saturday with officers arresting her father a short while later.

DNA evidence has been sent to Athens for analysis with prosecutors in Crete admitting that they had not ruled out dropping the case if the result proves his innocence.

A spokeswoman for the Prosecutors Office in Crete said: ‘We have received the file from the police and until this matter is settled, the man will remain in custody.

‘The final decision on if a trial will take place will be made by a panel of judges and the DNA results will obviously be important in this.’

The woman has remained in Crete, where she was on holiday with her father and has vowed not to return to the UK until he is freed.

She told MailOnline earlier this week: ‘I can tell you 100% that he did not rape me. I was on holiday with him in Greece and he’s the best dad in the world.

‘There is no way he would do something so disgusting. I’ve told the Greek police this, but they are just ignoring me.

She added: ‘This is an incredibly stressful, traumatic situation but there is hope for us.

‘We’ve been told by the judge that if a DNA test clears him, then he will be free to go.’
