Member of Parliament for Abetifi and former Minister for Food and Agriculture, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, has announced the formation of an exploratory committee to assess the viability of a potential bid for flagbearer within the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
In a statement addressed to “Patriots and Beloved Ghanaians,” Hon. Acheampong said the decision follows months of introspection, consultations with family, party grassroots, and widespread calls from supporters across the country.
“I have taken time to reflect deeply on our journey as a Party and on my journey within our political tradition. I recognize that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) finds itself at a pivotal juncture which calls not only for unity but also for a renewed commitment to our core values,” he said.
The exploratory committee, he noted, is expected to engage stakeholders, test the alignment between his vision and the aspirations of the Ghanaian people, and deliver its findings within four weeks.
Dr. Acheampong emphasized the priorities that would underpin his vision, including job creation, food security, youth and infrastructure development, national security, and good governance.
“This dedicated committee shares my commitment not only to discipline and unity within the Party but also to… development, safety and security and good governance within our nation,” he said.
He recounted his journey from grassroots organizer to a four-term MP, Cabinet Minister, party financier, and active member of numerous party and parliamentary committees, describing it as ‘lifelong and deeply personal involvement in the NPP..
“These roles and experiences have granted me invaluable insights into the sacrifices, dedication, and strategic vision required to build and sustain the foundations of our Party,” he stated.
As the NPP prepares for its next internal leadership phase, all eyes will be on the outcome of Acheampong’s exploratory efforts—and whether they culminate in a formal declaration.
