Bryan energies NPP base as he saves Wontumi

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) base was sent into celebration following the extraordinary intervention of Dr. Bryan Acheampong, who stepped in to provide a GH¢50 million surety towards the release of embattled Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Bosiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.

Chairman Wontumi was detained by the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) and faced a mammoth GH¢50 million bail condition with sureties. His arrest and subsequent detention triggered an outpouring of loyalty and solidarity as hundreds of NPP supporters thronged the EOCO and National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) offices, calling for his immediate release. Minority MPs, in an unusual show of support, staged a sit-down demonstration on the streets, amplifying calls for Wontumi’s freedom.

In the midst of the mounting tension and loss of hope, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, MP for Abetifi and a leading member of the NPP, who many are calling to lead the NPP into the 2028 election, mobilized the resources needed to meet the stringent bail requirements.

Working quietly but effectively, Dr. Bryan Acheampong raised the necessary sureties, a move many described as both heroic and symptomatic of his longstanding commitment to party unity and grassroots solidarity.

However, Wontumi’s actual release has been delayed following a separate legal complication triggered by party lawyer Gary Nimako, who filed for a review of the bail conditions. Even so, Dr. Bryan Acheampong’s decisive action has not gone unnoticed, earning him waves of admiration across social media and within party circles.

Facebook and WhatsApp groups affiliated with the NPP exploded in praise: “Bryan Acheampong is the real definition of loyalty. NPP is safe with leaders like him!” posted one supporter.
Another commented, “When others were talking, Bryan was acting. True leadership is in action, not words.”
“From feeding communities during COVID to now standing with Wontumi, Bryan is the hope of the NPP grassroots,” wrote a regional youth organizer.

An excited regional executive in the Ashanti region posted : “Chairman Wontumi will not walk alone. Thank you, Bryan.”

Dr. Bryan Acheampong’s philanthropic credentials have long been established through his Bryan Acheampong Foundation, which has championed educational scholarships, vocational training, and health interventions across various regions. His latest act of solidarity now strengthens his growing reputation not just as a technocrat and politician, but as a unifier within the party ranks.

Political analysts suggest that in a season where loyalty and swift action resonate deeply with the grassroots, Dr. Bryan Acheampong’s timely intervention could significantly bolster his standing in the NPP flagbearer race, should he decide to run after the report by the exploratory committee he has set up.

As the legal hurdles clear and Chairman Wontumi’s release is finalized, the NPP grassroots appeared to have already delivered their verdict. In their eyes, Bryan Acheampong has once again proven himself a leader for the times.
