Multi-storey building collapses At Ashaley Botwe, kills Man, 40

One person has been has died following the collapse of a 3-storey building at Nmai Dzorn, near Ashaley Botwe, in the Greater Accra Region.

The deadly disaster happened on Thursday with rescue operations said to have located the body of the deceased on Friday, May 5.

It is unclear what caused the building’s collapse but eye witnesses said there were workers in there when it occurred.

One other person, who escaped from the rubble, was rushed to the hospital.

Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), Ghana Police Service and Adentan Municipal Assembly helped in the rescue operation.

The deceased was said to have been trapped in the rubble until sniffer dogs were brought on site by the military to locate his body.

The deceased, 40, left behind a wife and two children.

His family were at the scene when his body was recovered. They have been crying since news broke that he was trapped in the rubble.

He hails from Volta Region, where his mum and dad are, our reporter added.

Officials of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) have since cordoned off the area.

This comes weeks after a storey-building under construction at Madina in the Greater Accra Region collapsed trapping one person.

The collapsed building is a three-storey building close to the Kpogas furniture and the Adentan footbridge around the SDA church junction and the West African Hardware Company in Madina.

Officials from the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), Ghana National Fire Service and the Ghana Police Service had a tough time retrieving the trapped person from the debris as there are no equipment to assist with the rescue operations.
