The Climate Communications and Local Governance-Africa (CCLG-Africa) has commended the government for its initiative to incorporate the green transition within the Energy Ministry, describing it as a significant step towards addressing climate change and promoting environmental sustainability.
In a statement released on Monday, CCLG-Africa lauded the government’s efforts but called for a more integrated approach to effectively tackle the pressing challenges of climate change.
The organization advocated for the establishment of a dedicated ministry that combines climate change, environmental protection, and green transition initiatives.
“A unified ministry would ensure better coordination among government departments, agencies, and stakeholders, enabling a cohesive response to interconnected challenges,” the statement read.
CCLG-Africa emphasized the potential benefits of such an integrated approach, highlighting three key advantages:
- Efficient Resource Management: “Leveraging resources efficiently will streamline funding and allocation to achieve maximum impact,” the group noted.
- Streamlined Decision-Making: “Reducing bureaucratic barriers will enhance decision-making and allow for timely interventions,” the statement added.
- Meaningful Progress: “A focused effort would drive tangible results in emissions reduction, sustainable development, and environmental conservation.”
The organization also urged the government to take bold and decisive steps in designing robust programs and activities that address climate change, green transition, and environmental sustainability comprehensively.
“We believe that by working together, we can create a future where economic growth, social justice, and environmental protection thrive in harmony,” said a CCLG-Africa representative.
The group reiterated its readiness to collaborate with the government and other stakeholders in fostering a greener and more sustainable future for Ghana.
“We look forward to contributing to efforts that prioritize the well-being of the planet and its people,” the statement stressed.
