Nana Kwame Bediako, founder of the New Force Movement, has committed to creating over one million jobs through food processing if elected into power.
He assured that these jobs would significantly improve the salaries and living standards of the workers involved.
Fondly called Cheddar, Kwame Bediako made this announcement during a meeting with leaders of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) in Accra on May 23.
He outlined his vision and policies that he plans to implement if he wins the December 7, 2024, elections, focusing on job creation in agriculture and other sectors of the economy.
“When we start processing our foods, we can have seven different jobs from one seed. Currently, we are the second largest producer of cocoa. What do we see from cocoa now? The chocolate industry is over $200 billion, but we are not benefiting from it in this country,” Bediako said, emphasizing the untapped potential in Ghana’s natural resources.
He also stressed the importance of improving healthcare and education as part of his economic strategy.
Dr. Anthony Yaw Baah, Secretary General of the TUC, praised Bediako’s vision and policy proposals. Recalling a previous conversation, Dr. Baah said, “He talked about sending the sea to Kumasi. We laughed, but later, when he came to my office, he explained that he would dredge the sea to Kumasi.”
In his ongoing efforts to garner support, Bediako met with members of the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) on May 22, where he promised to reduce excessive taxes that stifle businesses. He listened to their concerns and discussed potential solutions to improve their situation if elected president.
“I can’t promise free taxes once you start trading, but I will ensure they are reasonable. We rely heavily on imports, and excessive taxes cut into the profits traders need to survive,” Bediako stated.
He committed to revising tax policies to support businesses and enhance profitability.
