Chris Hughton, the coach of Ghana’s national soccer team, has issued an unreserved apology after his team’s abysmal 4-0 defeat to the USA in an international friendly match held in Tennessee on Tuesday night.
The game laid bare several weaknesses in the Black Stars’ performance, which Hughton unequivocally acknowledged.
As the head coach, he took full responsibility for the team’s shortcomings and expressed his deep regret for the devastating result.
“I apologise for the performance for the performance and the results,” Hughton said at a post-match press conference.
Ghana suffered another defeat, a 2-0 loss to Mexico during the recent international break.
These results are raising concerns about the team’s performance under Hughton’s leadership, with critics questioning his suitability for the role, especially in the face of stronger opposition in these international friendlies.
As the pressure mounts on the coach, Hughton is now looking ahead to the next international break in November, where the Black Stars are scheduled to play two crucial World Cup qualifiers against Madagascar and Comoros.
These matches will provide an opportunity for Ghana to regroup and work on improving their performance before the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in January next year.
