Circuit Court remands Rev. Owusu Bempah, 4 others into police custody

An Accra Circuit has remanded the Founder and General Overseer of the Glorious Word Power Ministry International, Reverend Isaac Owusu Bempah and four others into police custody.

Rev Bempah, and the four others: Mensah Ofori, Michael Boateng, Frederick Ohene, and Nathaniel Agyekum pleaded not guilty to six charges including a threat of death.

This comes charges were pressed against them for threatening to kill Patricia Oduro Koranteng, popularly known as Nana Agradaa.

Though defence lawyers led by Garry Nimako Marfo prayed for the accused persons to be granted bail, the prosecution led by Chief Inspector Dennis Terkpetey stood his ground and opposed the bail application because two of the police officers they assaulted are still on admission at the hospital.

The court presided over by Her Honour Afia Owusua Appiah in dismissing the application for bail explained that it will afford the prosecution ample time to investigate the case since the accused were only arrested yesterday.

The accused persons were subsequently remanded into Police custody to reappear on Monday, September 20, 2021.

While Rev Owusu Bempah and the first accused were charged with two counts of Offensive Conduct conducive to the breach of peace and threat of death, the other three were also charged with assault on a public officer, with one other person still at large.
