CLOGSAG calls off nationwide strike following court injunction

The Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) has announced the suspension of its nationwide strike, effective immediately. This decision comes after the National Labour Commission (NLC) secured a court injunction on November 6, 2024, mandating an end to the industrial action.

The strike, which began on November 7, had been organized by CLOGSAG to push for improved working conditions and benefits for its members across the country.

However, the association confirmed that it would respect the court’s injunction order, asking all members to return to work immediately.

In a statement, CLOGSAG emphasized that while it has called off the strike, it remains dedicated to advocating for the rights and welfare of its members.

“CLOGSAG assures members of its unrelenting efforts of ensuring better conditions of service for all,” the statement added.

The association urged all its members to report to work promptly, underscoring its commitment to lawful processes in pursuing its demands and called on members to continue with their duties while awaiting further updates on their demands for enhanced conditions of service.

The NLC, Ghana’s statutory body responsible for mediating labour disputes, had filed for an ex-parte injunction on November 6, arguing that the strike would disrupt essential government services.

The court granted the injunction, restraining CLOGSAG members from continuing with the industrial action.

As the strike is halted, the association has assured its members of ongoing efforts to address their concerns through lawful means.
