Confusion Over Mahama Convoy ‘Crash’

There is confusion over the identity of a supposed convoy involved in an accident suspected to be that of former President John Dramani Mahama.

Reports on Thursday May 11, 2023 was that three persons traveling with the former President Mahama on his campaign tour of the Savannah Region had been injured in an accident.

The victims according to the report include a TV3 Journalist, Christopher Amoako adding that “for now, it is unclear yet how the accident occured.”

The former President was pictured attending to one of the victims, Christopher Amoako of TV3, who was lying on the floor.

The three sustained varied injuries following the accident which happened at Dartotili, a suburb of Tamale in the Northern Region on Thursday.

The two other victims the report said are the Savannah Regional Communications officer of the National Democratic Congress, R.A. Jelil, and one other person only identified as Samed.

The team was returning from East and North-East Gonja Districts and heading towards Yapei and Daoboya in the Central and North Gonja Districts, but could not reach their destination.

The injured have since been conveyed to the Tamale Teaching Hospital For medical attention.

However, in a quick rebuttal, the Campaign Spokesperson for Mr. Mahama, Joyce Bawah Mogtari denied reports of any accident.

She emphasized that the John Mahama campaign team and convoy has not been involved in an accident, neither has the campaign been called off or suspended”.

She disclosed that, JM had just finished meeting branch and constituency executives of Yapei Kusawgu and was on his way to Daboya. The evidence is on his SM platforms, on WoezorTV and it’s SM handles.

Bawah Mogtari explained that, there was an accident involving a regional team that was traveling to the Yapei constituency, ahead of the JM campaign team convoy.

“John Mahama stopped to assist the accident victims, who have been transported to the hospital for treatment.We are unable to confirm the identities of those who were injured.
