An Accra High Court has granted an application by the Accra Regional Police Command to ban the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) from holding further protests in the capital.
According to the Command, it has secured a restraining order against the NDC from embarking on further demonstrations in the capital.
A release issued by the Regional Command and copied to this portal said the Accra High Court under Justice Mrs. Elfreda Amy Dankyi in a case between the Ghana Police Service (the Republic) and the NDC and Kobina Ade Coker, has prohibited all NDC intended protests from Sunday 20th December, 2020 – 10th January, 2021.
“The prohibition order follows an Affidavit filed by the Police upon receipt of notification from the Greater Accra Regional Chairman of NDC, Kobina Ade Coker, on intended daily protests within the above mentioned dates in Accra and all constituencies across the region.”
“The request by the NDC cannot obviously be met by the police in view of ongoing post-election and multifaceted security operations for the festive season and beyond,” part of the release said.
The Regional Police Command drew the attention of the general public especially sympathisers, followers and supporters of the NDC, to the restriction order and comply accordingly.
The NDC has disputed the 2020 presidential election results announced by the Electoral Commission (EC) and described it as flawed.
Followers of the party have, since the declaration of the results, been holding street protests across the country to demand what they claim is fairness and justice in the collation and declaration of the election results.
