Democracy Hub protesters burn NPP, NDC paraphernalia in anti-galamsey demo

Protesters from the Democracy Hub’s Stop Galamsey Now movement have taken a dramatic stand against the two major political parties in Ghana, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), by clearing and burning party paraphernalia at the 37 Roundabout in Accra.

The demonstrators expressed their frustration with both parties, accusing them of failing to address the illegal mining, or galamsey, crisis that continues to devastate the country’s natural resources.

As they tore down the paraphernalia, the protestors could be heard chanting one of the campaign songs of the ruling NPP.

Meanwhile, the police have urged the demonstrators to be peaceful, as they agreed.

“They are demonstrating their clear intention to be violent. We urge them to stop this,” a post on the X handle of the Ghana Police Service stated.
