Dennis Miracles Aboagye, a member of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign team, says his boss brings a lot of value to the table, making him the best person to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the country at large.
Aboagye says the NPP has seen many improvements since Dr. Bawumia took the limelight, citing a significant increase in the party’s numbers in the Northern Region.
For example, he says the NPP used to have about seven or eight seats in the Northern Region, while the NDC had about 28, but added that, today, the NPP has 16 seats in the region.
He was speaking in an interview on Citi TV on Wednesday ahead of the party’s presidential primary on November 4.
“Ever since Dr Bawumia came to our frontline, I have seen a lot of improvement by the NPP. If you look at the Northern part of Ghana, the greater Northern Region, there were about 31 seats there and the NDC had close to about 28 of these seats and the NPP had barely seven or eight. Today it has turned, the NPP has about 16.”
“…The fact of the matter is that Dr Bawumia since he joined in 2008 until now has led the advocacy in these non-traditional areas to boost our numbers. And it’s improved, it’s turned the tide in our favour, and it is evident and as a party, we can see how much personal value he brings to the table. In the 2016/2020 elections, very few people will doubt the fact that his efforts, and his contribution as a running mate compared to all other running mates we’ve seen in the past contributed to about 42 to 45 percent or even more in our electoral fortunes. At some point even he, the running mate was more sought after than the candidate himself,” he stated.
Meanwhile, the NPP is expected to elect its flagbearer on Saturday, November 4, ahead of the 2024 general elections, with over 200,000 delegates voting for four candidates vying for the slot.
