Patricia Appiagyei: Deputy Majority Leader warns against fake security services recruitment on social media

Deputy Majority Leader and Member of Parliament for Asokwa, Patricia Appiagyei, has warned Ghanaians about fraudulent recruitment exercises into the security services circulating on social media platforms like Facebook and WhatsApp.

Speaking at a joint press conference on Monday, July 22, which was held to discuss the Minister of Interior’s plans to expand the recruitment process across all 16 regions, the Deputy leader emphasized that no Member of Parliament or minister has been authorized to conduct recruitment via social media.

She said, “The public is hereby notified not to go through any individual on Facebook or WhatsApp for supposed recruitment into the security agencies.”

“There is nothing like that. No MP, no minister is in charge of recruiting anybody. So please, the public is hereby notified that we don’t go through any individual and need Facebook recruitment or even WhatsApp.”

She expressed satisfaction with the consensus reached by both Caucuses regarding the new recruitment procedures.

She stressed the importance of cooperation and mutual understanding between the caucuses in Parliament to effectively address recruitment issues.

“We are happy that at this point, we have reached a consensus. But I think what is at stake now is that both sides should always confirm and be able to understand ourselves before we come up with any kind of decision, and that’s what we’ve been calling for,” she stated.

Appiagyei praised the Minister of Interior for his efforts in ensuring a fair recruitment process.

She reassured the public that the process would be transparent and accessible to all qualified Ghanaians.
