The Coalition of NABCO Trainees (CONAT) has expressed disapproval of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s recent statement during the NPP delegates’ congress on November 4, 2023.
The Vice President had declared his aspiration to lead a nation that ‘improves and unleashes the talents of our youths and offers good jobs with good pay.’
CONAT, however, responded with scathing criticism, labelling the Vice President’s comments as “unpatriotic” and accusing him of being a “monumental failure” when it comes to policies aimed at addressing youth unemployment and poverty.
Nana Barimah Asamoah, the Patron of CONAT, stated, “We are utterly amazed at the courage of the Vice President that continually warrants such promises after he had made the lives of the youth miserable with NABCO and other sloganeering policies.”
CONAT, in a press release, outlined the grievances of the NABCO Trainees, citing issues such as the layoff of trainees without settlement of nine months’ arrears and the unmet promise of permanent employment after the expiration of the contractual agreement.
The association holds Vice President Bawumia vicariously liable for the alleged failures, pointing to the initiation of the NABCO scheme under his office and the appointment of his first son/staffer, Dr. Ibrahim Anyars, as CEO.
“The Vice President’s office initiated this experimental NABCO scheme woefully in a manner that saw the appointment of his first son/staffer Dr. Ibrahim Anyars as CEO, who ran the scheme into a ditch ruining the lives of these vulnerable youth,” Asamoah asserted.
The coalition warned of the impending launch of the ‘Unemployed Youth Alliance’ against Vice President Bawumia’s presidential ambitions, promising a ‘showdown’ in the 2024 General elections.
“The coalition of NABCO Trainees admonish the Vice President to stay off these pitiful partisan narrow promises and make a U-turn to correct the mess he has caused with his ‘wacky flagship initiatives’ as a showdown awaits him come 2024,” the release added.
