Ditch Mahama or suffer another shameful defeat – Stephen Amoah to NDC

The opposition National Democrat Congress (NDC) has been offered free advice to ditch former President John Dramani Mahama if the party wants to have the slightest chance of winning the 2024 election.

Member of Parliament for Nyiaeso, Dr. Stephen Amoah, who gave the advice argued the former President superintended over the worse economic condition that the country has ever witnessed but has found his voice today to criticize others.

Reacting to Mr. Mahama’s call for Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to be removed as head of the government’s Economic Management Team and Ken Ofori-Atta to be removed from the Finance Ministry, the Nyiaeso MP stated the one making the call messed up the country as never seen before.

The former President claimed Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta has supervised the disastrous collapse of the economy and should not be part of the government team of negotiators for the engagements with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

This follows President Nana Akufo-Addo’s decision to finally to go the International Monetary Funds (IMF) for a financial bailout.

Mr. Mahama, in a Facebook post welcoming the decision by the Akufo-Addo administration, said,  “The Finance Minister who has supervised the disastrous collapse of the economy cannot and should not be part of the team of negotiators. He has lost credibility and the trust and confidence of stakeholders in our economy. President Akufo-Addo must take a bold decision to replace his finance minister immediately with a more assured and competent person who is willing and able to work tirelessly to turn our almost hopeless situation around.”

“In addition, given his obvious failures, the Vice President must be relieved of his responsibility as Chair of the Economic Management Team to enable the President to reconstitute the team. We must draw useful lessons from this episode and avoid cheap politicking with the economy; that can only yield the disastrous outcomes that have brought us here.”

However, speaking on TV3’s Saturday analytical programme The Key Points Mr. Amoah stressed Mahama has such poor records when it comes to management of the economy.

He said, “The very person who is calling for the Finance Minister to be sacked, he messed up this country as never seen before. We were having guinea fowls and bus branding scandals and he wants to come back.”

“They shouldn’t choose him, if they choose former President John Mahama, the NDC will lose and you will be shocked, you mark it. He has the worst record,” he stated.
