Compensate families of 2020, 2024 election victims – Mahama to AG

President John Dramani Mahama has called on Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, the Minister-designate for the Attorney General and Ministry of Justice, to prioritize determining fair compensation for the families of those who lost their lives during the 2020 and 2024 general elections once he assumes office.

Acknowledging the tragic loss of lives during both elections, President Mahama also reiterated his directive to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, to ensure thorough investigations into the killings and prosecute those responsible.

Speaking at a special National Muslim Prayer and Thanksgiving service at the National Mosque in Kanda, Accra, on January 10, 2025, President Mahama said: “We would also ask the Attorney General, when he takes office, to determine a fair and adequate compensation for the families of those who have lost their lives.”

Dr. Ayine, along with two other ministerial nominees, is scheduled to appear before the Appointments Committee for vetting on January 13, 2025.
