Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine has successfully retained the Bolgatanga East parliamentary seat in the Upper East Region for the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
He secured 12,002 votes, defeating his closest competitor, Mathew Silas Amoah of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who garnered 7,415 votes.
This victory reinforces Dr. Ayine’s stronghold in Bolgatanga East, where he has served as the constituency’s representative since its creation in 2012. As a seasoned lawyer and academic, Dr. Ayine has built his political career on advocating for development projects, particularly in education, healthcare, and infrastructure in the constituency.
In the lead-up to the election, Dr. Ayine emphasized his achievements, including initiating projects to improve access to clean water and expanding educational facilities. His campaign focused on continuing these efforts while addressing new challenges facing the constituency.
The NPP’s Mathew Silas Amoah campaigned on the need for fresh leadership and development in Bolgatanga East, but he fell short in his attempt to unseat the incumbent.
Bolgatanga East has been a traditional stronghold for the NDC, and Dr. Ayine’s re-election further cements the party’s dominance in the region. His victory comes as the NDC continues to consolidate its support base in the Upper East Region during this election cycle.
