The Member of Parliament for Builsa South, Dr. Clement Abas Apaak, has authorised the release of GH¢231,200 from his portion of the District Assembly Common Fund to assist 264 students in paying their school fees.
The support, which is part of Dr. Apaak’s ongoing Students’ Support Programme initiated in 2017, was officially approved through a letter to the Builsa South District Assembly on September 15, 2024.
The beneficiaries include 182 university students and 82 students enrolled in nursing and teacher training colleges.
The university students will each receive GH¢1,000, while the nursing and teacher trainees will receive GH¢600 each.
Dr. Apaak, who also serves as the Deputy Ranking Member on Parliament’s Education Committee and spokesperson on education for the NDC’s 2024 campaign, expressed his commitment to advancing education in the constituency.
Out of the 264 beneficiaries, 140 are female and 124 are male, demonstrating a balanced gender representation in the disbursement of funds.
Despite receiving a total of 426 applications, Dr. Apaak noted that due to limited funds, some students could not be accommodated this year.
He encouraged those students to reapply in the following year.
He stated, “While we regret that we couldn’t support every deserving applicant this time, we assure those who met the criteria but missed out that they will be prioritised next year.”
The MP’s Students’ Support Programme has provided financial assistance to a total of 995 Builsa South students since its inception, with a total of GH¢747,000 disbursed between 2017 and 2024.
Dr. Clement Apaak has also spearheaded other development initiatives in Builsa South, focusing on health care delivery, water and sanitation, youth and women empowerment, and agriculture, further cementing his dedication to improving the livelihoods of his constituents.
Daniel Akogtu, the Deputy Communication Officer and member of the Student Support Selection Committee, praised Dr. Apaak’s unwavering support for education and development in the area.
“The MP’s interventions are life-changing, especially for families struggling with the cost of education. His dedication to the people of Builsa South remains unparalleled,” Akogtu stated.
