EC suspends PNC activities over internal ‘fights’

The Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC) as written to the opposition People’s National Convention (PNC) to resolve its leadership crisis or risk being suspended permanently.

According to the EC, until the crisis is resolved it will have nothing to do with the political party.

“I wish to inform you that, the Commission has decided to suspend all engagements with your Party until the leadership crisis is resolved,” a letter signed by a Deputy Chairman of the Commission, Samuel Tettey, said.

The letter, sighted by 3news.com, followed a request by the National Chairman of the PNC for the Commission not to supervise the purported internal elections as agreed in a roadmap made public in a statement by General Secretary Janet Asana Nabla.

With the roadmap, the PNC had planned to start its reorganisation towards the 2024 elections in October.

However, a counter-release chose early 2023 as the start date.

It remains to be known how the opposition party will fashion this out after the EC’s decision not to engage it anymore until the internal wrangling is resolved.
