The Electoral Commission (EC) has assured persons whose details have not reflected in the Final Voters Register they would be provided the opportunity to vote next week.
According to the EC, it will provide details of these persons and their Form 1As and 1Cs to the Polling Stations where they registered to enable them to be manually verified to vote.
Chairperson of the Commission, Madame Jean Mensah, disclosed this on Monday as part of the “Let the Citizens Know” encounter.
She stated that 542 persons who registered during the just ended registration exercise have not been captured in the Final Voters Register.
She explained that after the exhibition exercise the Commission undertook a thorough review and analysis of the Register to reconcile the number of persons who actually registered with the number of persons reflected on the final register.
The Commission, she said, relied on the End of Days reports generated by the Biometric Voter Registration Kits and compared them with the actual number of registrants on the End of Day reports to the Provisional Voters Register.
The analysis, she said, showed that 542 personas had registered but were not captured on the final register.
She said, “In our determination to ensure that every eligible person who registered is given the chance to exercise his or her franchise, the names of these persons will be published on our website and at our district offices throughout the country.”
“We apologise for the inconveniences caused to these persons and wish to assure them that they will be provided with the opportunity to vote.”
233 persons, she said, were also placed in wrong polling stations who have also been added to the missing names list at the polling stations where they originally registered.
She assured that these individuals will also be given the opportunity to vote, bringing the number to 830 across the 38,622 polling stations.
She expressed the Commission’s readiness for the December polls insisting that all is set for the 2020 elections.
She explained that the EC has put all measures in place ahead of the December polls adding that it has been able to make all the processes known to the Public from the word go.
The Commissioner disclosed that the total number of registered voters on the new register stands at 17,027,641 with 8,810,283 Females and 8,217,358 Males.
Greater Accra, she said, has the highest female and male registrants with 3,528,996.
The EC Chair disclosed that 15,860 details were recorded on the multiple registration list.
She said, “This list refers to multiple registrations done by unique individuals. 7, 890 people who conducted the multiple registrations amounted to the 15,850.”
“It is instructive to note that the list is not generated by the EC but the software. The system picks up the same fingerprint. The system detects it and isolates them and puts them on exceptions list.”
“I emphasize this to allay the fears or perception that the Commission is deliberately removing names of registrants from the Register. When a person with a unique set of fingerprints registers multiple times, this is flagged and picked up by the system and the names and details are isolated on the Multiples list.
Madam Jean Mensa also revealed that unlike the 2016 elections where 800,000 people were barred from voting as a result of multiple registrations, this year recorded a significant reduction of 21,000 people.
Mrs Jean Mensa, reiterated the Commission’s resolve to declare the results 24 hours after voting.
She said all things been equal the results would be declared at the estimated time frame because certain processes had put in place.
“Unlike the past, when the EC Chair collated results from all the 275 constituencies in the country, this year I will be receiving collated results from the 16 regions making it easier for the results to be declared,” she said.
Mrs Mensa said the regional and the district officers had been trained, equipped, and tasked to submit their report by specific times after vote close.
She said the EC had put together special logistics support to help the officers transport the results to district and regional collation centres, saying “in the Afram Plains, boats will be on standby while in the other hard-to-reach areas special vehicles and security will be made available.”
Mrs Mensa said the final Voters Register had a total of 17,027,641 registrants who were eligible to vote come December 7.
