Economic hardships: ‘You’ve the men; Now we know they’re area boys – Muntaka mocks NPP

Minority Whip in Parliament has taken a wild swing at the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for its claim it has the men to manage the economy of the country.

According to him, the NPP does not have the men.

Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak was seconding the motion on a Vote of Censure filed by the Minority to remove Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta from Office on Thursday, November 10.

He said, “There is this thing that the Majority keep saying; we have the men, we have the men. You heard the Vice President screaming, ‘what a solid team, what a solid team’.”

“Today when the real challenges came we have now come to realize apparently it was not the men they have, they were just area boys.”

“They are area boys because they are not able to confront the real challenges that confront our country,” he added.

The Whip, also member for Asawase Constituency argued the hardships that ordinary Ghanaians are going through and struggling to feed themselves puts a responsibility on all members if to take action against the Finance Minister, the basis for the economic hardships.

He urged the 80 NPP MPs who have also demanded for the dismissal of the Finance Minister, and referring to them as “Rambo 80, warned them to beware they have a good reason for rebellion.

He said, “You know this is a Finance Minister who does not listen. You know the efforts that you have made severally to get him to do the right things and he refused. Those are the reasons that led you to rebel.”

“I can assure you, if you backtrack you’ll regret it because you know the kind of President and his family that you have. They will surely come after you. It is better for you today to help us remove him.”

“It will give you mileage and will make people believe you. All the rumours going round that people made an attempt to bribe you; you need to justify it today. You need to oprove to the world that you were never bribed.

Meanwhile, the 80 MPs have stated they have disclosed they have reverted to the initial position when they demanded the Minister of Finance be dismissed.

At a press conference on Thursday, Dr. Nana Ayew Afriyie who addressed the media said the MPs do not want Ofori-Atta to present the 2023 Budget statement to Parliament and should not be the one to lead the appropriation.

He said, “When people are hard-pressed and have no understanding to the logic of competence and hard work and when they lose confidence, it affects the markets and the pocket of people,… it is the Finance Ministry.”

“But for us we have nothing personal against the Minister.”

“Our position is clear that if confidence in him has gone down he must go,” he added.
