Effutu Municipal Assembly to demolish unauthorized billboards

The Effutu Municipal Assembly has declared its commitment to enforcing laws regarding unauthorized billboards in the municipality.

In a statement issued by its Public Relations Unit, the Assembly emphasized that all individuals and organizations must obtain proper permits before erecting billboards or any other structures in public spaces.

This comes under the Local Government Act 2016 (ACT 936), which requires prior approval from the District Planning Authority for any physical development.

The Assembly cited Section 91 of the Land Use and Spatial Planning Act, stating that no construction work, including billboards, is allowed without a permit.

The notice further referenced Section 106, which mandates that a building permit be obtained for any form of development.

“Since 2021, we have conducted numerous sensitization programs in the media to inform the public about the need for permits. Unfortunately, many billboards continue to be erected illegally,” the statement read.

The Effutu Municipal Assembly has consistently undertaken operations to remove unauthorized billboards and reaffirmed its intent to continue this exercise to ensure compliance with the law.

“We will not back down on enforcing the laws of Ghana. All unauthorized billboards will be pulled down,” the statement declared.

The Assembly urged individuals and organizations planning to mount billboards to apply for permits through the proper channels.

“We encourage everyone to follow the correct procedure and be assured that all applications will be processed fairly,” the statement added

The Effutu Municipal Assembly aims to promote orderly development and ensure adherence to local planning laws with its latest stance.
