The egos of those leading government business in our Parliament, currently, are growing out of control such that consensus building and compromises which anchor political decision-making seem to be replaced with arrogance, intrigues and a false sense of entitlement, perhaps because of the the crippling effect of power.
But I’m afraid the old social order in Parliament is clearly pregnant with a new one, arising from the current leadership and governance architecture in the House of Parliament.
It is clear that leadership of the majority group would have to revise their modus operandi for trust and decency to prevail.
We can all see the shame that Hon Joe Wise’s surreptitious attempt to vote, while in the Chair as Speaker, has brought about.
A needless embarrassment to our democracy!
Let’s be mindful that the stakes are high and any conduct contrary to standing orders, which seeks to give undue advantage to either side would no doubt be resisted by any means possible.
Respect for one another and the will of the people is the only remedy for sanity in our political engagements.
