The Minister for Defence, Dominic Nitiwul, has stressed the paramount role of the military in upholding democracy and the need for political neutrality.
He cautioned against partisan involvement and declared that the military’s primary duty is to safeguard the nation’s integrity.
Addressing a Republic Day lecture at the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Nitiwul urged personnel to maintain unwavering political neutrality before, during, and after the December 7 elections.
He stated, “The military is the last bastion of our country’s hope.”
The Defence Minister underscored the dire consequences of the armed forces losing public trust by aligning with any political party, emphasizing that such a breach could undermine democracy.
The lecture, attended by distinguished speakers including Mr. Opoku, Prof. Kwasi Aning and Madam Josephine Nkrumah, focused on the indispensable role of military impartiality in ensuring national security and stability.
This event marks the inaugural session of a series of public lectures planned by the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College to foster discourse on critical national security issues in the coming months.
