A disagreement over the enstoolment of a chief in Biadan, a community near Brekum in the Bono Region degenerated to cutlass and machete fight between two families.
Two persons sustained wounds during an altercation as the family failed to resolve what appears to be a peaceful protest over the enstoolment of ‘unqualified’ member of the family.
Nana Yaw Brogya, one of the king makers and member of the family told journalists that the enstoolment of chiefs rotates between two gates in the family.
He said following the demise of Nana Brogya Odoom, Nana Kingtor II the next of kin, was immediately enstooled after performing customary rites and burial of the late chief.
But the decision to enstool Nana Kingtor II did not go well with one of the gates who took up arms against the new chief and his family.
Nana Brogya said the aggrieved side claimed the newly enstooled chief was unqualified because his older siblings were the next in line.
Nana Brogya said that the aggrieved party accused the kingmakers of putting money ahead of customs.
He said the disagreement ensued over months during which the second oldest son of Nana Nana Kingtor II was murdered on the family farm.
He stated that following the murder of Nana Kingtor’s son, the other children advised their father to relinquish his title but Nana Kingtor II would not budge.
Nana noted that this development forced two of Nana Kingtor II wives and some of his children to desert home for fear of their lives.
As at the time of writing this report, the whereabout of the two wives, and George Kwasi Sarfo, Nana Kingtor’s oldest son is unknown.
