The Member of Parliament for Builsa South, Dr. Clement Apaak, has issued a warning to the government, stating that more boycotts should be expected if the persecution of minority members persists.
In response to criticisms that the boycotts are aimed at sabotaging the government, Dr. Apaak expressed surprise, questioning the expectations when the government is perceived to be persecuting their colleagues.
He highlighted the role of the Attorney General, stating, “Is the AG not working for President Akufo-Addo? If ‘piking’ says moda no go sleep, piking too no go sleep! They should expect more than the current boycotts!”
Dr. Apaak further addressed the criticism faced by the minority for their boycotts, challenging NPP MPs who have not consistently attended parliamentary sessions.
He emphasized that the majority party should be capable of conducting business without the presence of the minority.
Dr. Apaak justified the boycotts by stating that the minority has valid reasons for their absence, in contrast to the alleged lack of reason for NPP MPs’ absenteeism.
Highlighting a comparison between different cases, Dr. Apaak drew attention to the prosecution of Adamu Sakande, a former Bawku Central MP, versus the alleged persecution of Quayson.
He argued that the NPP MPs did not boycott when Adamu faced prosecution because they were aware that he had not renounced his other citizenships and had travelled on three passports.
Dr. Apaak contended that while Adamu’s case was prosecuted, the persecution of Quayson is unwarranted.
