Explain Chamber boycott and yet turn up at Committee sittings – Annoh-Dompreh swats Minority

Majority Chief Whip Frank Annoh-Dompreh has taken a dig at the Minority caucus for what he described as hypocritical and clear double standards in the boycott of Parliamentary business.

According to him, though the Minority has declared a boycott on trial days of the MP for Assin North James Gyakye Quayson, they still showed up for Committee meetings on Tuesday 18th July 2023.

He challenged the caucus to clarify the reasons why they are eager to boycott the Chamber during this crucial period and yet show up at Committee sittings.

The Whip, who is also the MP for Nsawam-Adoagyiri highlighted the importance of representatives fulfilling their duties in the Chamber.

He questioned why some members would choose to attend committee meetings but abstain from the plenary session.

“They have to give some reasons for doing what they are doing because they were elected to represent their constituents, and deciding to attend committee meetings and boycott the Chamber is very disturbing.”

“Their role is to be in the Chamber because that is what their constituents elected them to do,” Mr. Annoh-Dompreh stated.

The committee meetings and Gyakye Quayson’s trial, he said, were happening simultaneously, indicating that the Minority members present at the committee meetings should provide an explanation for their decision to boycott the Chamber during this period.

“I don’t see why someone will choose to sit in committee meetings and boycott the plenary.”

“I follow and check, and the time the trial was ongoing, the committee meeting was also ongoing, and so they should come and explain why they will boycott the Chamber,” he added.
