Feuding parties in Bawku chieftaincy warned to respect 2003 Supreme Court ruling

Feuding parties in the Bawku chieftaincy impasse have been charged to desist from actions and pronouncements that will further aggravate tensions and violence in the area.

All stakeholders are reminded the Supreme Court has already made a determination with respect to the Overlord of Bawku so therefore any attempt to install a new Bawku Naba is contrary to the position of the Apex court.

Minister for Chieftaincy, Hon. Kojo Kum issued this warning in a statement indicating the status of Paramount Chief of Bawku was settled by the Supreme Court in April 2003.

“Indeed, the judgement of the Supreme Court, the highest court of the land, are meant to be complied with and not subject to the opinions of any individuals or group to pick and choose whether to abide by the judgments or not.”

“As a matter of fact, until or unless a decision of the Supreme Court is varied or set aside, that decision is binding on all persons,” the statement said.

According to the Minister, the list of members of the Upper East Regional House of Chiefs with its Regional House at Bolgatanga indicates that the Paramount Chief of Bawku / the current occupant of the skin is Naba Asigri Abugrago Azoka II who was enskinned on 24th April 1984 and thus became the President of the Kusaug Traditional Council

He urged the stakeholders to respect the position of the law and act accordingly.

He warned the security agencies have been authorized to take all necessary steps to enforce law and order and bring to book all persons who will breach the peace.
