Final SONA: Speaker demands decorum during Akufo-Addo’s visit

Speaker of Parliament, Professor Aaron Michael Oquaye, is demanding respect and due courtesies from members when President Nana Addo Dankwa Akfuo-Addo appears before the House tomorrow Tuesday 5th January 2021.

President Akufo-Addo is set to deliver his final State of the Nation Address before the 7th Parliament would be dissolved and the 8th Parliament subsequently sworn in on 7th January midnight respectively.

The President is expected to inform the representatives of the people of his achievements during his term from 2016 to 2020.Delivering his welcome address when Parliament resumed sittings on Monday 4th January 2020,.

The Speaker reminded the members of a decision reached with the cooperation of leadership of both the majority and minority under his auspices to be decorous and courteous whenever a president appears before the House.

He said, “Members would recollect that under my auspices and with the full cooperation of the leadership of both sides of the House, we took a decision that whenever a President of the Republic appears in Parliament due courtesies would be given to him or her.”

“Collectively, we banned catcalls, discourteous interruptions etc.” “Let us be mindful of these healthy developments and keep it up at all times,” he said.
