Former Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, has called for a complete overhaul of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) leadership following the party’s defeat in the 2024 general elections.
Speaking in an interview on Nhyira FM in Kumasi, Prof. Frimpong-Boateng described the current leadership as ineffective and accused them of contributing to what he termed a “shameful” and “unprecedented” electoral loss.
“All the executives must resign for leading the party to an unprecedented defeat. If the demons in the NPP are not removed from their leadership positions, the party will continue to suffer,” he stated.
The renowned heart surgeon, who previously served under the Akufo-Addo administration, emphasized that the removal of “bad elements” within the party is critical to restoring trust and dignity among the party’s grassroots base and the general public.
Prof. Frimpong-Boateng also took aim at former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, criticizing his leadership style and describing him as “unreceptive and close-minded.”
His remarks come at a time when the NPP is grappling with internal divisions and facing calls for reform in the wake of the 2024 electoral outcome, which saw a significant drop in the party’s parliamentary representation and loss of the presidency.
